Are you thinking about adding a pool fire feature?

We’ve said many times before that it is often the features around the pool that really make the space complete. While the pool itself is obviously critical, it is often these “extras” that keep you in the space even longer (even when you’re not physically in the pool).

A pool fire feature definitely falls into this category.

In this article, we’ll talk about various poolside fire feature ideas to get you dreaming.

Use This Helpful Guide to Plan Your Landscape Design
Choosing the right fire feature for your backyard pool will help ensure you get the most out of it.

#1: Pool with Fire Pit Area

One possible option is a pool with a fire pit area nearby.

A fire pit is often a family favorite because it becomes a hang-out spot. You can gather around a fire pit and cozy up after a nighttime swim. And it keeps you, the family, and friends hanging out at the pool long after you’ve stopped swimming.

There are many poolside fire pit ideas to consider. For instance, you’ll want to think about how large to make the fire pit area. Sometimes we hear homeowners say that the fire pit zone became the “kid hangout spot” while the parents were in the pool. You’ll want to make sure that you incorporate enough seating!

However, a really important consideration for a fire pit is the smoke.

That’s why it’s so important that you have the fire pit area far away enough from the pool that it’s not blowing smoke into the pool area.

Along with that, you’ll want to think about which way the wind blows. Obviously, there will be some variation to this as many properties experience crosswind patterns. But you can at least have some sense of the primary direction the wind tends to come from.

If you’re having any seating built (such as a retaining wall that can double as seating), you’ll want that placed in the best possible location in relation to the wind.

#2: Pool with a Fireplace

Another option is a nearby fireplace

An outdoor fireplace can really make a dramatic statement and becomes like its own showpiece in the pool area. We love building gorgeous stone fireplaces that add major aesthetic appeal to Northern Virginia properties.

Plus, it’s also a benefit that you don’t have to worry about the smoke the same way that you do with a firepit. With a fireplace, there is a chimney so the smoke goes up and out.

You can get really decorative with an outdoor fireplace, such as having tiers or other creative elements. You might also think about making a fireplace part of an overall pool pavilion, which gives people a covered place to hang out when not inside the pool. The fireplace could be built right into a pavilion wall.

This can also be a great way to add privacy to your space as the stone fireplace wall can serve as a privacy screen.

#3: Poolside Fire Bowls

Another unique fire feature idea is incorporating poolside fire bowls. These are fire features that really enhance your space from an aesthetic standpoint while also adding some ambiance and light.

A fire bowl is exactly what it sounds like…an urn or bowl with a burning flame. It’s a similar concept to a tiki torch but even more elegant and appealing. We are getting an increasing number of requests for these gorgeous features.

We find that homeowners really love the contrast of water and fire together, making it an appealing addition.

A Landscape Design in Northern Virginia with the Best Pool Fire Feature

At the end of the day, the best poolside fire feature is the one that works best for your space.

We know that a pool is a big investment and that’s one of the reasons that you want to make sure that you are getting the maximum enjoyment and value out of it. One of the best ways to do this is with additional features that keep you in that space for longer. Add-ons like poolside fire features can make a huge difference in using your space more fully.

Of course, like so many other factors, much of this boils down to choosing a company that can help you create the perfect landscape design.

For a pool, you want a designer who is experienced with more than just plunking a cookie-cutter pool in the ground and moving on. You want a swimming pool designer and builder who has experience in creating entire poolscapes.

This will mean being highly selective in your search. The fact is, not all swimming pool builders are created equal. Many are just focused on installing your pool and moving on to the next job as quickly as possible. In fact, many pool builders aren’t experienced in even adding pool features, like a pool with a fireplace or fire pit.

But when it comes to something as important as your swimming pool, which you’ll enjoy for years to come, you want to be sure it’s completed exactly as you desire—with all of the spectacular add-ons that are going to make it unique.

The backyard is about more than just the pool. It is about the memories that are made there. And we have found that these add-on pool features, like fire features, make a tremendous difference. You want a complete outdoor living space that has it all!

By making a wise choice among swimming pool designers in Northern Virginia, you’ll be able to see your dream pool area come to life.
